Drug reflection

I read about the cause of drugs and learned a lot. one thing that I learned was that ecstasy may cause a lot more widespread brain damage than what was previously thought. Scientists have found that only a few doses can cause immense damage to brain cells in in monkeys. Scientists said that taking ecstasy can give you an increase on getting parkinsonism which is like Parkinsons disease but later in life. I thought this was really interesting  because I never knew that ecstasy could be so dangerous. Overall, after reading this article, there is a lot of things that I will definitely be able to share with people I meet who happen to do ecstasy.

Biology Project Reflection
CJ Harrison

Project Background:
One of the very first projects we did was this CSI website where we worked through scenarios and tried to learn more about what happened in the murder. That taught us how to gather evidence and use it to see if the victim was innocent or not. We also worked on a small packet that we used to get information from the Utah college and find out more about how DNA replicates and how you replicate it. From there we did a lab where we made gel that we could use to see DNA come out of the little slots we put in the gel so that the smaller DNA strands would come out faster than the bigger strands.

Our project was based on a person named Ray Krone who was wrongfully convicted of rape and spent nearly 10 years in prison. We represented this person by making a tape sculpture which was shaped by kneeling down and having his arms flexing in toward his body. We had put a picture of a bite mark in one hand and a vial. The bite marks are represented by the violence the Ray Krone was convicted for. The vial represented DNA that found him innocent and not guilty.

I definatly learned from these DNA labs because no matter how hard you try there is always going to be either the same DNA as yours or different DNA than yours. I have also learned that comparing DNA takes a lot of time to find the evidence. One of the coolest things I have learned officially is that you can duplicate DNA to work with it as much as you want and not have to worry about getting another sample every time you mess up.

Bio Reflection

What lead to this project? What did we focus our learning on prior?
We6 started off with studding diffusion and osmosis which then lead to study of our body and cancer which lead to our group project. Our group was assigned the digestive system and i decided to work on colon cancer and wrote a story on Vince Lombardi who had colon cancer.

What is the purpose of the project?
The purpose of this project was to increase our knowledge of the system we were assigned and to do a piece of community service for the community. The community service we did was we went to river view elementary and spoke to the 3rd grade about health.

How did we decide who would do what in the project?
We each signed up for a part that we would want to do like edit the web site or work on community connections. Any extra work we would assign in our group depending on who had time and wanted to do it.

What was my role and what did I have to do.
I was the interview person and my job was to basically get someone in the interview who I could record and have them share their knowledge about our function. I also had to write questions to ask that person so I didn't get caught up thinking of questions to ask.

Reflect on my work with questions

What did I do in the project that you’re proud of?
I was really proud of myself because when I went in to interview my aunt, I wasn't too nervous asking her questions because I didn't know how well it would go so I was freaking out and I came out having really strong answers and my aunt was really able to elaborate on them.

What would you want do to refine or change your project?
If i could go back and refine one thing i would refine my page. it was to the requirements but i think i could make it look neater.
How will u improve your work quality on your next project?
i will plan on managing my time better so i can use the extra time to refine and improve the work

How did you find relevance in the project?
i found relevance through my aunt because she does a lot of medical care and I thought it was really interesting to take away from her experiences.

What will u take away from this project/semester
I will take away there are many diseases in the world but if you have the right diet you can easily prevent these diseases.
